Frequently Asked Questions //

​​What do I need to bring to my first visit?

Bring your insurance card or claim number and photo identification.  Provide the receptionist with the prescription (referral slip) from your referring medical provider.  A copayment may be collected, if required by your insurance company.

 

What should I wear to physical therapy?

Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move and/or expose your affected areas for treatment, if necessary.  Gowns are available for patients, if needed.  Please wear shoes that are comfortable are appropriate for walking.  



How much time should I set aside for my first visit?

​The evaluation on your first day of therapy will take about an hour but you may want to set aside 75 minutes to allow for paperwork and/or any extra time the therapist may need to spend with you.  Your therapist will discuss the evaluation findings with you and customize a treatment plan based on these findings, your doctor's recommendations, and your personal goals.



How many physical therapy visits will I need?

There is a high variability on the number of visits needed to treat with physical therapy.  Using information gathered from the evaluation, you will be informed in an understanding manner about your condition, findings, and the established treatment plan along with therapy goals to assist you to achieve recovery as quickly and safe as possible. Please note that the required visits depend on your condition, past medical history, prior level of function, evaluation findings, and the professional medical opinion of both your physical therapist and your medical provider. Your insurance policy may have a coverage limit for Physical Therapy.   This may influence and limit how much treatment you receive.
